FSMA Resource Station: Regulation Details

FSMA Resource Station: Regulations logo

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was signed into law in 2011. The first of several compliance deadlines have passed. There are many resources about the new law, ranging from presentations by the Food and Drug Administration to guidance from industry associations and private companies. Much of this material never reaches its audience. Refrigerated Transporter's goal is to seek out this information and make it accessible in one central location.

This is the first of three planned Resource Stations. It focuses on the regulation—its background and evolution into the 7 foundational rules.

These rules cover topics ranging from essential food safety practices to reducing the chance of intentional tampering with the food supply. The operation of refrigerated fleets is impacted by the rule called "Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food". This builds upon standards originally set in the 'Sanitary Food Transportation Act' from 2005.

The other two Resource Stations will cover training and products or services related to complying with the FSMA. When these sections are rolled out, links will be included below.
